Virginity is a song about the struggles of a kid with a religious background figuring out their homosexuality. What will be their salvation in the longterm is a total nightmare at the time. How will my family react how will my peers react? Is is a bad thing to be gay, like the christian small-town society tries to make me believe? Is it a good thing? Why do I see myself confronted with these questions an can’t I go back to being a child? These are some of the questions that young Jon faced when loosing their virginity and outing themselves as queer. This song is a refection of this feeling.
Shivering and stuttering synths and moving shakers underline the indecisive mood of the fragilely sung verses, sticky snares hammering sub bassy kicks, a tearing distorted bass and a lonely piano create a sinister atmosphere. Stoic chorusses and the crescendo of the mantric bridge culminating in an angry and dire chorus make the song a companion for moments of desperation and discontent.
