Blessing has the second most beautiful thing in the world as its theme ... that is after music: sex. The Lyrics draw on religious imagery to approach the subject and takes Jon's religious upbringing into account. Such an upbringing can, under certain circumstances, lead to a dysfunctional relationship with sexuality. The song offers a loving and pleasurable way of dealing with something that is established in Christian education as impure and dirty and connects with the liveliness that two people can feel in the act of lovemaking.
The video grifts Eros and Psyche allegorically for eroticism and the mental handling of it. Jon is depicted as a cyborg being: on the one hand Donna Harraway's modern feminist- influenced human being on the other programmed being, between human and machine as a wheel in the social- capitalist construct. Wounded in their eternal search for a love or lust, and trapped by the shackles of psychic experiential coping, Jon finds their voice in the queer community: the Mermaid figure in their mouth.
Mona Yim's production picks up on the song's sexy and yearning mood, wrapping this melancholy hyperpop ballad in a mystical, playful atmosphere.
